Emelie Looft

Emelie Looft is a Medical Doctor and Research Assistant within obstetrics/Gynaecology at the Department of Medicine at the Karolinska Institutet. She has previously studied Political Science at Stockholm University and Global Health and Women’s International Health at Standford University/Karolinska Institutet. She has experience with epidemiology, project management, NGO’s and clinical work within obstetric care in Sweden and Uganda as well as international clinical field work experience from India, Guatemala, and Uganda.

Caroline Olsson

Caroline Olsson is a medical student at the Karolinska Institutet, a professional dancer, and previously studied journalism at Stockholm University. As a volunteer at MACHA’s partner organization Institute for Indian Mother and Child and through her earlier work at Indian organizations Asian Sahyogi Sanstha India and Missionaries of Charity she has experience of working with NGO’s with a focus on education, child- and maternal care and women empowerment projects.

Jakub Olzcak

Jakub Olczak is a fourth-year medical student at the Karolinska Institutet. He holds a Bachelors Degree in Mathematics from Stockholm University and is a Research Assistant within orthopedic machine learning/artificial intelligence at the Department of Orthopaedics, Danderyds Hospital. Women and children’s health is a very dear subject for Jakub who is now part of the MACHA board for the second year.

Johan Ljungberg

Johan Ljungberg holds a Master’s degree in Semitic linguistics from Uppsala University and is currently studying Business and Economics at Uppsala. Johan has previously studied theology at Oxford University and is a part-time lecturer at the department of linguistics in Uppsala. With a background in teaching and as a father of three he is passionate about education and children’s welfare.

Andreas Pousette holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Nutrition from the Karolinska Institutet and is currently pursuing a Masters degree in Public Health with a specialization in Health Economics at Umeå University. A former IIMC Volunteer, Andreas first got in touch with Global Health while studying nutritional diseases. Andreas is especially intrigued by the multiple ways in which an organization can work to combat health inequalities and the special role of culture in a society.

Karin Pernling is engaged as witness support at the Stockholm District Court. She has previously been involved in Svenska Adoptionscentrum and has traveled to India multiple times, working with evaluations of orphanages and giving seminars in management and networking. Karin is retired from her professional work as a buyer in a global company. She is also a major consumer of culture.

Rickard Zaring is a Digital Entrepreneur with a passion for establishing great relations and creating epic communication solutions, mostly via graphic design, web design and copywriting. With a BA in Media and Communication Studies from Örebro University, he is involved in many different projects within the digital marketing sphere and wants to create a real impact with his skill set.

Rebecca Rosier is a writer and performer from the UK. Currently based in Stockholm, Rebecca divides her time between projects in dance, music, and poetry; as well as working as a writer and proofreader, mainly in digital, advertising and social media.

Shahjahan Siraj

SHAHJAHAN SIRAJ

Shahjahan Siraj is a Medical Doctor and a Masters Student in Global Health at the Karolinska Institutet. He previously worked as a general practitioner in rural areas of Bangladesh and later, as a physician at the Maternal and Child Health Department at the International Centre for Diarrhoeal Disease Research, Bangladesh (ICDDR, B). The program was a joint collaboration with Johns Hopkins University, WHO, and the Government of Bangladesh around pneumococcal vaccines.

Emelie Modalen is a first-year Medical Student at the Karolinska Institutet. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from Johns Hopkins University. She has previously worked as a Research Coordinator on a sleep and pain study at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. She is a passionate leader with fresh ideas for the Stockholm IIMC group and hopes for an opportunity to experience the IIMC Volunteer Program in the near future.

Hanna Peterson is a first-year Medical Student at the Karolinska Institutet. After shadowing doctors at a hospital in Tanzania and traveling to several countries in South East Asia, where poverty and inequalities are commonplace, she realized that she wants to engage herself in Global Health issues.

As a motivated media and communication enthusiast, Agri is currently taking his master’s in Media Management at the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm. He is passionate about communication between people and is fascinated by its potential in inspiring change. Different platforms and modes of communication are tools to facilitate understanding and to raise awareness of health, environmental and societal issues. He loves creating engaging and meaningful user experiences.

Firoz Roshan

Firoz Roshan is a PhD graduate in Medical Science from the Karolinska Institutet. He holds an engineering degree in Biotechnology and is active in industrial pharmaceutics. The subjects he cares about are Global Health, social inequality, and animal and environmental protection. Through his close association with the Department of Labour and Child Welfare in India, he supports the education of two underprivileged children and helps in the promotion of healthcare in rural areas.

Kristina Tosheva

Kristina Tosheva holds a Master’s degree in Criminal-procedure Law at Ss. Cyril and Methodius University (Macedonia). After completing her studies, she worked as a project coordinator in various voluntary and NGO projects. She has experience with organizing workshops, events and project coordination in the non-government sector. As part of the project “You can help” she worked as a coordinator in order to organize volunteers to collect donations and help refugees in the camps (Balkan refugee route).

Caroline Johansson is a medical student at the University of Uppsala. She was instantly interested when she first heard of IIMC and decided to get involved, sponsor a child and go to India as a volunteer. She has previous experience from volunteering in Ecuador.

Since January 2017, Ebba is studying the medical program at Örebro University and quickly raised her eyes to IIMC, as she has a great interest in the health of women and children.
